Carroll’s operates on a simple philosophy to do right by the customer. And while many things have evolved since the business started over 50 years ago, the customer-focused staff at Carroll’s have never lost sight of that goal.
Carroll’s started as a mum and dad operation in 1969, and today is now one of New Zealand’s leading Transport, Logistics, and 3PL Warehousing providers. With two strategic warehousing and distribution centers – Carroll’s offers managed warehousing, 3PL Pick, Pack & Deliver services, Transitional Devanning & Distribution and Transport & Cartage services from Auckland Airport and the North Shore.
Carroll’s is built on family values and full of heritage. Managing Director, Chris Carroll’s parents, Tony and Vera Carroll, founded the business together with only a truck and pinboard. ‘Dad would come home with pockets full of dockets and my mum would take over. All the dockets used to get pinned up on the back of the couch and then the couch would get pushed back against the wall, that’s how the admin department worked”, he says.
Having grown up around logistics, Chris Carroll not only has a wealth of experience in the industry, but he also pours his heart and soul into his work daily. “I am inspired and get great satisfaction in assisting in finding solutions for people that have problems with their supply chain. It sounds a bit cheesy, but it’s true. The whole team is committed to our cause, and we are very proud of what we do.
I’m very sentimental towards the business. I remember when I was ten years old, and my dad took me along to an auction, and we bought a forklift. We’ve still got that forklift today, so it’s been over thirty years.”
Chris, the forklift and many team members, are not the only things that have been around the business for decades. Carroll’s has customer accounts dating back to the early 1970s, which is a testament to the level of service and price competitiveness they offer.
Throughout the years Carroll’s has consistently invested in their people, their fleet, new warehousing, systems and technology to support their ability to produce the best service, most efficiently without cutting corners. “Our large investment in IT has enabled us to compete and provide a better service than the big guy, which is a big driver for us.” The focus on efficiency and innovation has touched every element of the business and is highly visible in Carroll’s state of the art North Shore Logistics Centre.
This includes semi-automated very narrow aisle ‘man up’ forklifts, GPS transponders embedded in the warehouse floor as well as energy-efficient sensor lighting. Carroll’s integrates this with significant IT capability offering features such as full EDI, RF Scanning, Scan Pack and their unique online national freight calculator for customers. Couple this with an experienced and professional team, and you have a humming logistics operation that delivers on their word.
